Creating a Universal Chart

Create and configure a Universal Chart that relies on values from a data source and can be used in all KnowledgeKube applications regardless of platform. When you make changes to any of these settings, they will be instantly visible in the preview on the right half of the interface.

Implementation:

  1. Create a new question and set the question type to Chart.
  2. Click the Configure button, which opens the Select Chart dialog.
  3. Tick the Universal Chart option and click Next. This opens the Universal Chart Configuration dialog.
  4. Use the Chart Type drop-down menu to select the type of chart to create.
  5. Use the Data Source drop-down menu to choose the data source that will be used to populate the chart.
  6. (Optional) Use the Data Source Filter drop-down menu to pick a data source filter to apply to the chart data.
  7. (Optional) Tick Pivot Table to invert which part of the data source to use as the series in the chart. Most commonly, the series in a universal chart will be based on the rows in the data source but ticking this option will use the columns instead, and vice versa.
  8. (Optional) Use the Style tab to change the visual style of the chart. You can select a Colour Theme, apply an Alpha Gradient, set if you want to Apply Borders to the chart elements, and Apply 3D effects to the chart.
  9. (Optional) Switch to the Legend tab. Here you can apply a legend to the chart, and determine where it should appear in relation to the chart itself.
  10. (Optional) Switch to the General tab to change how the chart's tooltip should appear. Here you can use the Tooltip Format field to change how the tooltip will appear, and tick the Include Data Marker Labels check box to apply labels to each data point.
  11. (Optional) Switch to the Action tab to specify an action that will execute when a user clicks an interactive element in the chart.
  12. (Optional) Switch to the Additional Settings tab to make further changes to the chart's appearance. In this tab, you will find options relevant to the selected chart type. As such, the options available here will differ depending on the type of chart you have selected.
  13. Click Save to confirm the chart's settings.
  14. Save the question.
